My weekends are usually full of time with my family, time for fun, time for myself, time for my hubby, and sometimes I find time to relax, read, reset, and repeat. However, after I set a goal this quarter to "show up more" , one goal in particular was to become more engaged with a community partner - and so, I said YES to participate with a fundraiser event on a Saturday and this is how it went ... (reflection time)
I took moments to really look at the people who showed up, their dedication was undeniable, I thought to myself - how is it that they say YES and find the time and energy when I so often say no .. goes to show me, determination beats out procrastination every day.
I soaked in the energy .. there were moments at this event that I realized, being myself in all my hyper-ness, loudness, and talkative manner is okay - in fact, I really felt it is more than okay, I watched my energy match and feed off of others - it was truly connecting power. Who would have thought, like minds attract and if it weren't for my excitability would I have ever met who I met this day... probably not.
The collective power - sit back and think about those days where you are in your comfort element, you are meeting people, flourishing in an environment/at an event, when you are feeling at your best, having a great day working alongside others, or just thankful to have said hello to that person today - now think about the connections that made that moment possible: was it a person, a right place at right time, an intentional plan or goal, an organized event, a group, a network, a friend, a stranger, etc. - I challgenge you to reflect and then circle back -go tell that nudge-er thank you or if it was right place at right time, remember to revisit that place/group/network/event again and again when you can.
This gets even better ... please scroll/go back to my opening on this post- think about this reflection: I set a goal last year (back in November) for this quarter (April the following year) to "actually show up for/with a community partner" - -and so, based on this timeline -I could NOT have known that in the exact time range of my goal period that I would receive a call from one of my key community partner's - and I certainly did not know that it would be to include me in a "do more/show up" project that just so happen to help me meet my personal growth goal. **No matter your belief on how this came to me, you/I can not deny the power of goal setting, determination, and commitment.
My challenge to you right now - decide a personal growth goal, get out of your comfort zone (or decide to lean into it even more) and set a goal (remember your goal must be specific, have a way to determine if you met or unmet your expectation, the goal must be within your means to reach it, the goal should be realistic, and your goal MUST have a due date) SMART. Write and say it out loud what your personal growth goal is and now schedule yourself check-ins for this your own progress monitoring of this goal. Tip: April - June is Quarter Two of the year. Go get your goal! You can do this!
