The transition of my career is in full swing - beyond the "new learning" that goes into the launch, the uncomfortable relationship building, the unknown formal and informal processes, the day-to-day routines, and so much more hit me like a brick wall this week. The difference? I am able to apply the lived in, studied, tried and failed, tried and succeeded practices with me that make each unknown that much more possible to get through. "You're not starting from scratch, you are starting from experience" is an understatement. Also, the thrill of an outsider point of view, the excitement of a fresh look, the energy of learning NEW - is all a part of the journey and it is proving to be one of the best decisions that I have made to date. These tricks and tips have helped me navigate phase I:
-time to meet and greet with an objective to listen intently and ask meaningful questions
-time to reflect, letting information digest and make notes before I take on more than I can retain
-check in's - ask for feedback and hear it - apply what you consider
-comfort - taking the time to settle in the physical space, getting organized and setting the tone of my work space has proved to be a valuable step 1
Most important - be patient. I don't know what I don't know, I don't know the best questions to ask, I don't have all the answers, and I need time to learn and grow so I can be most valuable to others- that doesn't happen on day 1 - allow myself to be the new girl on the block, it's okay!
